Rules & Guidelines

Art

Art projects can include any painting, drawing, sketching, mixed media, sculpting or other method that involves creating shapes on a surface.

Photography

Photography projects can include any type of photography. You are allowed to submit up to six images. Please supply a release form for anyone in your photos.

Video

You must have written, directed and edited the video. The video must be at least two minutes but less than 10 minutes in length. If the video is not in English, then subtitles in English are required. Any actors or outside help must be credited in the work. Please supply a release form for any non-actors.

Music

Music projects can include any type of music that you create and record. The song should be at least 3 minutes but shorter than 8 minutes in length . You can choose whether or not to also sing. You must have written the lyrics and music, produced the song and any band members must be credited on SoundCloud or in the submission form.

How to Submit

For Art and Photography:
1. Provide your submission to your school’s lead Art Teacher by the entry deadline of March 27, 2024. Photography or digital art should be printed (size and format of your choosing.)
Ventura Rotary will collect the submission(s) from your school.
2. Your submission form should be submitted online by March 27th as well as two Letters of Recommendation. (This is true for ALL submission types.)
3. Provide a description of your piece up to 300 words (on submission form)
For Video:
1. Provide your submission (.MP4 file type preferred, .MOV also accepted) on a jump drive to your school’s lead Art Teacher by the entry deadline of March 27, 2024. Ventura Rotary will collect the submission(s) from your school. OR, provide a download link (like Dropbox) on the submission form. OR, upload your video to YouTube or Vimeo and provide link to the video on the submission form.
2. Any music you use in your video (not required, by the way) must either be in the public domain, original music (made by you), or used with permission.
3. Make sure any download link is shared with our email address: perspectivesonpeace@gmail.com.
4. Your submission form should be submitted online by March 27th as well as two Letters of Recommendation.
5. Provide a description of your piece up to 300 words (on submission form)
For Music:
1. Provide your submission (.MP3 file type) on a jump drive to your school’s lead Art Teacher by the entry deadline of March 27, 2024. Ventura Rotary will collect the submission(s) from your school. OR, provide a download link (like Dropbox) on the submission form. OR, upload your music file to SoundCloud and provide link on your submission form.

3. If you have lyrics:
  1. If you have lyrics, upload them as a file to a cloud storage provider (such as Dropbox, OneDrive, or Google Drive).
  2. Create a shareable link and make sure to share it with our email address: perspectivesonpeace@gmail.com.
  3. Include this link in your submission form as well.
  4. If you composed a piece that has a score, you may submit the link to that file as well.
4. Your submission form should be submitted online by March 27th as well as two Letters of Recommendation.
5. Provide a description of your piece up to 300 words (on submission form).

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be graduating high school seniors from one of the following high schools:

  1. Ventura
  2. Buena
  3. Foothill Tech
  4. Pacific
  5. El Camino

And will be attending college (community college, four-year undergraduate, etc.) or an advanced vocational/technical/art school.

Additionally, students must have two letters of recommendation from teachers, counselors or mentors.

Privacy:

By submitting your work, you agree that we may display the project on our websites, including, but not limited to photos, links, videos, etc.  No other personal contact information will be used without explicit permission obtained beforehand via email.

Choosing A Winner:

Submissions will be evaluated by our judges only after all submissions have been received by the March 27, 2024 deadline. The judges will include members of the Rotary Club of Ventura as well as community members in the fields of art, photography, music or video.

Award Distribution:

The awarded entrants will, upon verification of eligibility criteria as described above, receive their one-time scholarship disbursement in the form of a check from the Rotary Club of Ventura.

Awardees will be contacted and funds will be distributed at an event that the Rotary Club of Ventura will hold to congratulate the winners.
